Okay guys, I have now been going to Curves for 2 weeks. I go 4 times a week for 30 minutes. It is a nice workout so far and for someone who has no discipline it's great.

My Goals:
Lose 30 pounds and get to a size 10. I'd like to do this in a year... but it may not be possible. Either way I'd like to lose about 3lb a month.

I'm doing pretty good with soda. I used to have a soda and candy bar for breakfast every morning. LOL Then have about 2-3 more before the end of the day. I have cut my intake down to 1 a day and try not to finish the whole thing if I can. I've been drinking a lot of vitamin waters and juice. The juice I'm actually watering down a little. I do this because: 1. I hate plain water. 2. Juice has a lot of sugar in it depending on what you get and by cutting it down I don't feel so bad for drinking a lot of it.

Now... I have a question to ask you all

At Curves you are on a circuit. In between each machine is a nice soft pad to run on. However, it is still killing my knees. It isn't horrible but I know if I continue it that they will start to hurt pretty badly. Is there anything I can do to make the impact less on me knees? Is there a different way to run but still keep my heart rate up? Help?

Well I know a lot of you probably forgot about this little community... but I figured I would post anyway. ^_~

Today I am going to start Curves. I went last night and bought some clothes to exercise in and today I'm going to drop the dough to start.

Hopefully having a set thing I'm supposed to do at each session will keep me motivated. Usually when I go to the gym I am uncomfortable if there are guys. Also I tend to wander and not really work out long enough on one machine or push myself at all.

If you guys aren't familiar with Curves it is a gym for women. They have several machines inside and they set you up on a rotation so that you work the areas you need to work for a set amount of time.

I really hope this is gonna be worth the money...

I'm currently not allowed do any exercise while lying on my back so I've had to temporarily give up pilates which I really loved. For the time being I've switched to yoga, which is relaxing but I don't feel like I'm getting the same toning benefits that I was getting from pilates. Do any of you know of any good ab exercises that don't require lying on your back?

So I had heard about this diet called The Sacred Heart Diet and I was like, thats cool. So, I followed the instructions and I started my day one. Holy hell was that hard. I did well to start out with, but after my 2nd cup of soup I got the worse case of the shits like you wouldn't believe. I know you guys want to know this :P But it was uncontrollable. Thank god I didn't have to work that day. Needless to say, I had to take meds and eat bread or something. Jeez...no really. It may work for you guys but I couldn't even eat the soup again. I threw it out. Just the smell of the soup would make me shit. It was good soup tho...but my point? I tried and lost 2 pounds with that diet in one day. Can you guess how? So, back to counting calories which takes longer but I don't have to worry about shitting myself in public. Thats my update. Blah...and two days later, gasX jus doesn't work anymore. I feel for my hubby...

Last week.... not really sure how I did, actually. I had my first business trip in Philly and so ate out for every meal, but when torn between two options I always chose the healthier and as it was at pretty fancy restaurants the meals were relatively smaller than the "burgers and fries" you get elsewhere.

However, not one to deprive myself when on vacation, I also ordered a dessert almost every night (always shared with others, though!) and drank a lot of wine and cocktails.

So I think I did okay, but not great.

As for exercising, I did pilates in my hotel room once and walked for at least 2 hours for each of the following two days (sight-seeing), but while I brought my gym clothes and the hotel had a fitness center, I never actually used it. I kept setting my alarm-clock to go, but I was soooooo busy the whole time that I was worn out every night and sleep was so precious.

So I think I did okay, but not great.

Hahaha, and now we are back to our regularly scheduled program.

Today I went to the market and picked up some fruit and veggies and tonight I'm going to watch the second half of Zorro on the elliptical. It'll keep me on there for a good hour.

Tomorrow: pilates.

And I loooooovvee Serradee's idea about posting some of our healthy lunch ideas. I'll brainstorm some of my own recipes. Anyone else who has a favorite should post it too! I'm always looking for new things I can bring to work!

So, I've been busy at work which helps me keep my mind of food. Or too much binge eating food. So, for a week now I've walked a mile a day. There is this beautiful place up in the mountain here just up from where I work and I walk right after work. Its peaceful and shaded and I can get lots done. I've been watching what I'm eating and my libido is at its all time high. Prob? Well, I've not lost a damn pound. I sweat like a whore and burn calories and I've cut back on my caloric intake. But no weight loss. But I noticed a difference in my waist. Hmm....So, YAY! but BOO!

But today, I didnn't want to walk. It took ALL of my strength to take a left instead of a right. Pulling teeth thats what it was like. Am I soo afraid of losing weight? I wonder. I do this all the time. I get into a good grove for like a week or so, but then I just find reasons to stop all together. Why? Dunno...I feel great when I do go. I almost binged today afterwards. Caught myself. What do you guys think? Is it a fear? I've been fat for so long now am I really fearful? Fear that my hair and my body is the onlything I can control and when its done, I will not having anything to control?

hmmm...
*ponders*

So far this week has been great eating wise and not so great exercise wise.  On monday it was super hot so I thought I'd go swimming but I don't know if it was very effective because I didn't feel sore or anything the next day.  How true is the statement "no pain, no gain?"  Then on tuesday I had pans to do yoga but that fell through.  So today I'm going to try to make it to the gym for some cardio and try to squeeze in a yoga class.  I'll let you know if I actually do it.

I just read this tip on the Body by Glamour "motivation guide" and know firsthand how well it works; thought some of you might profit:

Tell the world about your workout plans. Notify your husband in the morning that you're going to yoga class after work that night. Or tell your best friend that you'll call her after your morning jog. It's a sneaky way to guilt-trip yourself into exercising no matter what. Otherwise, you have to publicly confess that you bailed.

So anyone who wants to give this a try can start here! Instead of telling us about your previous weekly progress, let's all tell what we hope to accomplish for the rest of this week... then we can check back to see if it truly helped. ^_^

My goals:
To complete 2 more 30 minute cardio sessions, Glamour's 30 minute strength workout, and a minimum 20 minutes of yoga.
To get back down to 1600 calories for 3 of the remaining 5 days of this week.
To eat the rest of the fruit in my desk drawer that's going to spoil if I don't finish it before the weekend.

Subject:Grapefruit good for your diet?

Mood: calm

I found this interesting article on fad diets. This one in particular deals with the grapefruit diet. It has some interesting facts about grapefruit and I thought it would be neat for some of you to read:

http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/diet/grapefruit_diet.htm

Basically, the article says while the "grapefruit diet" is not healthy in itself, studies have found that eating some grapefruit each day is a good way to aid weight loss and has benefits in other areas as well.

Maybe we should all start adding some grapefruit to our diet?

Take note however, they do suggest a healthy balance of fruit in the article so don't take this to mean you should only eat grapefruit. ^_~

Whew, even though I semi-slacked off the second-to-last week, I'm finishing off feeling very accomplished. ^_^

So, my Self Challenge results!

Total workout minutes: 2,780 (that's over 46 hours!)
Total calories burned: 19,970

Pounds lost: 18
Cumulative inches lost (between waist, hips, and thighs): 8

Pants sizes lost: 1.5
Dress sizes lost: 2-3 depending on dress style (I recently bought a couple dresses that were size 8s!! I probably haven't fit a size 8 since I was 12! Of course, they were of the tight-on-top, flared-around-hips variety, but I'm still stoked. ^_^)

So either this week or the next I am signing up for the Body by Glamour challenge if anyone wants to join me. I'm not sure if it's 6 weeks or 12, but it really does help with motivation!

I've been having a hell of a time figuring out different fruits and veggies to incorporate into my diet (one can only eat so many apples and grapes and salads), and just came across this web site, which lists produce according to its best season. Thought it might help some of you with a similar problem. =)

I got SUPER sick with like some flu/food poisoning shit a week ago and couldn't hold anything down for a week. A week. Vomiting and diarrhea isn't fun, but I did lose 6 pounds. I've totally fallen off the wagon being sick and now that I can eat solid food I'm STARVING all the damn time. I'm down 6 pounds and don't want to gain it back, but fuck...I want to eat all the time. My appetite came back with force. How am I gonna deal with that? I haven't been excersizing because I'd been so weak, but now that I'm ok, I don't want to. I want to sit on my couch and watch my soaps. Thats it. I feel fine and have normal energy now, but I just want to sit here and enjoy not having to do anything. Meh....

Anyway, thats really my update. Now, I've decided to do something silly to help me avoid overeating or eating bad things. I'm gonna do what anorexic people use to help them. THe rubber band method. I will wear a rubber band on my wrist and when I get the urge to eat bad unhealthy things like chips or candy, I will snap the rubber band till it hurts. Punishment for thinking about bad foods. Will I really do it? Depend on how bad the snapping hurts. Gonna give it a try tho...I think.

I just heard about this new online program put on by Glamour Magazine. From what I can tell it's almost exactly like the Self Challenge (which I give two thumbs up).

http://www.glamour.com/bbg/

I have two weeks left on the Self challenge and am thinking about signing up for this one after to see how much variety they put in and keep the motivation up. Just thought I would pass it on to see if anyone else was interested. =)

Just checking in. I keep losing track of how often I do this, so my posts will likely be sporadic. =)

As of yesterday I had lost another 2 pounds and an inch around my waist (happiness).

Nothing around my hips or thighs, though, which surprises me greatly. I think I'm going to start targeting that area a lot more.

I realized this morning that if I lose one more pound I will once again be at my lowest-ever weight (since childhood, obviously). Last time I got there I hit a massive plateau... wish me luck on keeping at it this time! Does anyone have any thoughts on avoiding plateaus? I know the most common suggestion is to do different types of workouts for a few weeks, but I already try to spice it up at the gym (elliptical one day, treadmill one day, stationary bike, etc.) Maybe start taking aerobic classes or something...

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

On the exercise front I've done well this week: yoga on Sunday, elliptical on Monday, and pilates Tuesday and Thursday. I plan on doing either treadmill or stationary bike tonight and HOPE to squeeze in some cardio this weekend, but that's always really hard for me because I can't go to the gym on weekends. Maybe if the weather is nice I can talk Matt into showing me some soccer moves...? *ponders*

But on the *food* end of things... eh... stress makes me binge and I've been stressed. I managed to resist my roommates' KFC a couple nights ago (only gave in to one biscuit), but then Matt brought home pizza last night and we went out for happy hour which means cheese sticks and cocktails... yeah. And someone brought donuts to work this morning and I had two (but they're very, very small donuts if that helps...? *guilty look*)

And today is Wendy's birthday which means: oreo ice cream cake. Ack!! I am allowing myself one piece and one piece only.

So all in all I've had a mediocre week on the health side of things.

Ah, but I have lost 3 pounds. =)

I love Ice Cream. I dream about rivers flowing with malted shakes... I'm a fiend when it comes to the stuff. So of course diets are hard for me because of this fact. But, I do have some alternatives to share with you all.

Ice Pops: These are great substitutes. We all had them as a kid. At 35 calories a popsicle, no fat, and 9g of sugar, they are a good thing for those of us on a diet and healthy as well! Be careful which ones you get and don't get anything cream, ice pops only! They are still wonderful!

Skinny Cow Ice Cream: For those of you who just can't take another day with out cream in your diet. These ice cream sandwiches are made just for us! These have more calories but taste great. They have 140 calories and are 97% fat free. I tried the strawberry shortcake and it was really delicious. No bland tastes for us! Go here for more on this one: http://www.skinnycow.com/index.html

Those are my tips for the week! Hope they help!
